Mac quick start

  1. Download TryOmarchy.dmg and open it.
  2. Drag Try Omarchy to Applications, then open it.
  3. Start Omarchy and follow the account setup. The first launch takes longer while it prepares Linux.

Windows quick start

  1. Download TryOmarchy.exe and open it.
  2. Choose where to store Omarchy. If prompted, allow Windows Hypervisor Platform, restart, and reopen the app.
  3. Pick your account. Choose my username and password lets Omarchy’s setup ask for them, or Quick start signs you in as omarchy with the password omarchy. Setup then downloads Omarchy (about 2 GB) and starts it.

Linux quick start

  1. Download TryOmarchy.flatpakref and open it with your software center, then choose Install.
  2. Open Try Omarchy from your app menu and choose Set up Omarchy. Set up my own account lets you pick your username and password, or Quick start as omarchy skips that.
  3. Setup downloads Omarchy (about 2 GB) and starts it. The quick-start account’s username and password are both omarchy.

Before you jump in.

Does this replace my operating system?

No. Omarchy runs in a virtual machine inside an app, on macOS, Windows or Linux. There is no repartitioning or dual boot. Windows setup may enable its virtualization feature and ask for a restart.

Is this the full Omarchy desktop?

Yes. You get the Omarchy desktop, themes, and Linux apps. Hardware support and host integration differ between Mac, Windows and Linux. Performance depends on your computer; video decoding on Mac is currently CPU-only.

Do I have to use a ready-made account?

No. On Windows and Linux, setup defaults to your own username and password, which Omarchy’s normal setup asks for. Quick start skips that and signs you in with a ready-made account named omarchy, with the password omarchy. It is a regular Omarchy user, not a time-limited trial. Its sudo does not ask for a password and SSH accepts only keys for it; run passwd to set your own password. You make this choice once, when Omarchy is first set up.

Will my Linux files stay between sessions?

Yes. What you install and save stays in the VM. Windows keeps the Linux disk in the folder you chose during setup, and Linux keeps it with the app unless you choose another folder. Mac saves changes too, unless you turn on disposable mode, which discards them when you close the app.
